Climate change has become a global issue and is impacting lives and livelihoods across the world, Africa and Kenya specifically. In line with SDG 13 ‘Climate action’, we improve education on climate change mitigation. SUED supports better health, better learning and better environment in the schools.
Build a school forest– Through our ‘Plant and adopt a tree’ project we reinforce the value of ‘Care for nature’. Every child plants a trees on the school ground and is responsible to take care of it. The trees will provide shade and a healthy learning environment for the children. The children learn to support nature and how to reduce their carbon footprints.
School Gardens – We demonstrate farming, gardening, how to use the local seeds that are resistant to diseases and drought and provide seeds to plant. The fruit trees and vegetable gardens provide very important nutritional value to the children once they start harvesting. While water rainfall from the rooftops is collected to grow crops.
To the community demonstrate how to mitigate in the event of prolonged drought, to sustain food security in these rural parts of Kenya.
Raise awareness – Awareness of the seriousness of climate change and global warming needs to be educated to our children. So that they can grow up not just having the information but also knowing what to do within their local context.
